New Year / New Work

Updated: Jul 30, 2022

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

On the occasion of our turning a new chapter I thought I would share with you what I have been up to in the past few months, since I last sent out a newsletter. For starters, my good news this past month is that one of my photograph has been awarded an Honorable Mention in the NY Photo Curator Global Exhibition, “Beyond the Surface” curated by Ellen Jantzen. I am honored and grateful for this recognition.

I have been taking photos of the foliage on my walks everyday for 2 years and there is always something new that catches my attention. Lately it's been the shadow play on the path. This path itself has become the subject matter and the shadows have been employed as the means to explore pattern and color to evoke emotive content.

The place where I live is in the midst of a nature sanctuary. I can step out my door and walk a couple of miles on the bike path that winds through the preserve. So it is that most mornings I am out walking, taking pictures as I go. Lately I have been using the iPhone exclusively. What I shoot is governed by the hourly and seasonal shifting light, and the ever changing natural environment. In my process, the emotive content in colors, shapes and line are emphasized through Photoshop. I find great joy in discovering the graceful turn of a branch or the accidental, but perfect leaf that has fallen. I often dont see these delicate and subtle effects that make the shot sing until it is on the screen. What I am looking for is surprise and a sense of awe. I am in awe that in nature itself one finds the most beautiful shapes, lines, colors and composition. The natural world is, for me. the best teacher always revealing unexpected juxtaposition of color and patterns that explode with surprises

My favorite quote, and Im sorry I don't know its author is, "Point the camera at God and you will find God looking back at you". Thats how it often feels when it is going well. On my website you will find more of these images that I would like to share with you. To see them, you can find them in the portfolio labeled OUTSIDE / INSIDE

Thanks!

LYNDA
